In 2011 Operation Threshold participated in a community collaborative aimed at securing additional funding for home visitation programming in Black Hawk County. Our agency was selected among other community service providers to apply for funding available through the Iowa Department of Public Health.
The application was successful and our agency received funding through the Maternal, Infant & Early Childhood Home Visitation (MIECHV) program. These funds have allowed us to provide an additional 50 slots in Lutheran Services in Iowa’s HOPES-Healthy Families program and 40 slots in Tri-County Child & Family Development Council’s Early Head Start program. In total, an additional 90 at-risk, Black Hawk County children/families are now receiving home visitation parent education services.
In addition, funding was used to expand our Nest group parent education program to increase the number and variety of class offerings as well as to meet the parent education/child socialization needs of the Early Head Start and HOPES-Healthy Families programs.
